Although Morocco is referred to as a destination for thousands of tons of European tires which are then used in cement kilns, it doesn’t imply illegal tire exports.
This March, Moroccan customs seized a truckload filled with 2,730 waste tires. The hauler was forced to use a dirt track to circumvent checkpoints on the main road. Customs officers managed to isolate the vehicle and then confiscate its contents.
Today, many European tire management organizations and companies are involved in scrap tire export, and they must make sure that tires are used legally. Customs of Morocco hadn’t disclosed the source of the tires, however it becomes clear that all over the world thorough attention is paid to how waste is exported and further treated.
